About Me

Hi, I’m Barley! I’m a long hair dapple mini dachshund living with my humans in Boston. One of their favorite things to do is to try new local breweries and I get to tag along. Visiting breweries with a dog is an entirely different experience, so I’m going to use this blog to share my stories, photos, tips, and more!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where did you get Barley?

We got him from a breeder in New Hampshire called, “Daisy’s Dachshunds.” It was a wonderful experience. She updated us weekly and we were able to visit Barley when he was 6 weeks old. The puppies are well taken care of and raised with the family. We would highly recommend!

Did you do special training with him?

No. We did take Petco’s Puppy 1 and Puppy 2 classes which teach basic commands and socialization. But nothing beyond that. We did put in an effort to socialize him young – get him used to crowds, noises, trains, boats, planes, etc. But we’d credit most of his easy going nature to his disposition. We got lucky.

How big is Barley?

He’s a full fledged “tweenie!” He was 15.3 lbs as of April 2024 (1 year, 4 months).

Is he neutered?

Yes. He got neutered at 7 months. He really started acting out in the weeks before the procedure (humping everything, marking, etc.). It went well and he is fully recovered!

How is he with other dogs?

He’s pretty good! He likes dogs of all sizes and is always looking to play and say hi. Before being neutered he started to hump a lot, but he’s good with dogs (and cats!).

What color is Barley?

He’s a chocolate dapple dachshund.

Is he part Aussie Shepherd?

Nope! Though the color does look similar. He’s 100% dachshund.

Does he bark?

He’s 7 months old and still finding his voice. He barks, but he’s not as bad as dachshunds are notorious for being.

Do you have some favorite puppy gear or products?

We’re still learning what works best (let us know what you love!), but we have some favorites already:

  • Django Brand Harnesses and Walk Sets are comfortable and easy to clean (use code: BARLEY for 10% off)
  • Voyager Harnesses (great affordable step-in option)
  • Polkadog Green Monstah treats (great use of an invasive species and Barley loves them!)
  • Frisco Double Door Crate (small). This is the perfect size for Barley and it folds up nicely for travel. We also have the cover and the Frisco bed.
  • The Pawket. After an exhaustive search for the perfect car bed, we found it. It’s comfortable, safe, easy to install and Barley prefers it to his normal doughnut beds (use code: BARLEY for 10% off).
  • Strolee Pet Stroller. Yes, a stroller. Here me out – we like to take long walks and while Barley likes walking too, he just can’t do long distances. The stroller solves that problem. It gives him a comfortable places to be with us without over taxing his little legs. It’s also ideal for brewery visits as it has leash clips and gives him a seat at the table (instead of on the floor). So he can just relax with us rather than on the floor, and we don’t have to worry about him trying to bolt off. It’s also great to store extra gear when we’re on the go.

I’m Barley, a long hair dapple mini dachshund who loves traveling to breweries and going on adventures with my parents. I’ll post about them here and you can follow along on Instagram!
